First NY-Bred Foal of 2022 Arrives at Edition Farm Jan. 1

Tanmawwy (Candy Ride --Wasseema, by Danzig), owned by Tanmawwy Partners, gave birth to the first NY-bred foal of the year, a filly by Central Banker, at Vivien Malloy's Edition Farm in Hyde Park, N.Y., on New Year's Day.

Bred by Shadwell Farm, the unraced 6-year-old mare Tanmawwy was purchased at the 2020 Keenland November Sale carrying her first foal, a filly by the young Shadwell stallion Mohaymen. Her dam Waseema was a multiple stakes winner and graded stakes-placed in Europe, who also produced stakes-placed Ekhtibaar (Bernardini).

"She truly is a New Year's Day filly! Tanmawwy delivered the beautiful, flashy bay filly at 5:00 a.m." Teri Brown, manager at Edition Farm, commented. "This foal is the first of 30 to be born at the farm this year."

In Memory of Wake Up Kiss

About Wake up Kiss

I was so proud to be in her presence... she was the real deal. Courageous, stoic and classy to the end. When they did the autopsy which the vets asked if they could do and said they would be honored to do hers, they were stunned and said she should have colicked every day. She was so compromised in her intestines, colon, and diaphragm. Annette, the farm manager who saw her every day just cried when she saw what that horse had been going through, silently. We all loved her. She was an example to all of us... how to live and how to die.
